No turning back on Brexit, Hollande warns

France’s president François Hollande has, once again, urged the UK to translate the country's referendum vote to leave the EU into action, saying that France wanted Brexit to be completed by 2019.

Speaking at a meeting of French diplomatic staff in Paris on 30 August, Hollande warned against any delay in invoking Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty, the action that would formally start the process of the UK leaving the EU.

Hollande said that any delay “would risk causing confusion and instability, which would be bad for the UK and unacceptable for Europe”.
