Researchers vow to fight Macron’s university reforms

A group of researchers is campaigning against French president-elect Emmanuel Macron’s plans to give universities greater freedom from government control.

Macron beat his opponent Marine Le Pen, leader of the far-right Front National, by 66.1 per cent of votes to 33.9 per cent in the second round of the presidential election on 7 May.

In the run-up to the vote, Macron received support from all the major higher education and research organisations in France that took a public position on the election.
