Gilles Bloch, president of Paris-Saclay University, has been nominated by French president Emmanuel Macron to lead Inserm, the national agency for health research.
Following Macron’s nomination on 13 November, Bloch will be interviewed by National Assembly and Senate committees in the coming weeks. While these committees could reject Bloch’s candidacy, this is unlikely and Bloch is expected to take over from Claire Giry, the interim president, after the interviews.
Bloch, who holds both a medical degree and a PhD in molecular biophysics, has been a high-ranking civil servant in research for more than 15 years.
