The agricultural research organisations Inra and Irstea are involved with seven of 24 regional development projects that will share €450 million of government funding.
The government unveiled the 24 winners of the ‘regional innovation’ call on 13 September to coincide with prime minister Édouard Philippe’s visit to the Drôme region of south-eastern France where two of the projects are based.
Many of the winning projects focus on innovation in agriculture and ecology. Inra and Irstea, France’s two agricultural research organisations, which are merging in 2020, will lead one each. Inra will lead a project in north-western France to improve the efficiency of livestock farming and slaughter, while Irstea will lead one based in south-eastern France on designing digital resources to help farmers move towards sustainable agriculture.
