Government moves to reduce animal testing have taken the heat off the issue—for now

Essential to progress against major human disease or an affront to morality and an abuse of power: animal testing is controversial in much of the world, not least France where, in recent years, moves have been made to reduce its use.

A 2021 animal health bill was widely celebrated by activists for clamping down on circuses but made no mention of animal experimentation. However, the government and research agencies have been eyeing the issue.
