French minister advocates greater cooperation in EU higher education at European Council meeting

Frédérique Vidal, France’s minister for higher education and research, has spoken strongly in favour of measures proposed by the European Council that aim for greater cooperation on an EU-wide basis across higher education.

The proposals include a recommendation to move closer towards issuing a ‘European degree’ that will be recognised universally across the EU. “We seek to experiment with a European label for joint degrees, which would pave the way for true European degrees, and the criteria for those will be discussed jointly soon,” Vidal said.
