France trumpets university rankings progress

National policy encouraging mergers bears fruit in global classification

Several French universities have gained ground on their international competition in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings for 2023. The French government once again demonstrated the importance it attaches to such classifications, issuing a statement detailing French universities’ performance.

France was awarded seventh place in the country rankings for higher education, unchanged from last year, leaving the country behind the United States, Great Britain, China, Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, and on an equal footing with Japan, South Korea, Switzerland and Singapore.
