Pay the bill in full, French university heads tell government

“Critical financial situation” means institutions cannot cover government-mandated pay hikes, says France Universités

French university leaders have demanded that the government fully cover the cost to universities and research institutes of civil service pay rises set out in June, and compensate them for soaring energy prices.

France Universités, the association of university presidents, said that the government also needed to trigger a review clause in the multi-year LPR research programming law that came into force in December 2020, so that the budgets for universities could be revised upwards to deal with these and other costs.
