France bets €500m on AI research clusters

Joint training and research hubs will aim for European and global prominence

France is to invest €500 million to create 5 to 10 ‘AI clusters’, with the goal of positioning France at the forefront of artificial intelligence research.

During a visit to the Vivatech 2023 technology conference on June 14, president Emmanuel Macron announced the opening of a competitive call for universities that want to lead the clusters. The programme will run as part of the France 2030 investment plan, managed by the National Research Agency (ANR), which has the growth of AI as a major goal.
