Annual government report notes rising competition from emerging economies

French science is performing decently in a global context but shows signs of slipping behind in some areas including artificial intelligence, according to an annual government review.

In its final report analysing trends in higher education and research in 2021, the Sub-directorate for Information Systems and Statistical Studies (Sies) ranked France 10th in the world share of scientific publications in 2021.
