In depth: France’s overall spending on higher education and research will be raised by €1 billion in 2024, according to the government’s draft budget. However, the plans make no mention of extra funding to help universities pay for government-mandated pay hikes—apparently confirming ministers’ previous statements that universities will have to dig into their savings to meet those costs.
