Paris-Saclay leads French charge up Shanghai Ranking

       

But university’s president highlights funding gap with international competitors

The government and much of the French press has celebrated a strong performance by French universities in the 2023 Academic Ranking of World Universities, known as the Shanghai Ranking.

Twenty-seven French institutions were included in the top 1,000 ranked universities, of which 18 were classified as being among the top 500 global institutions. In a statement, higher education and research minister Sylvie Retailleau highlighted the performance of Paris Cité University, which climbed 10 places to 68th position, and PSL University and Sorbonne University, which were placed at 41st and 46th positions respectively.
