Hesse ministry will not plug university budget holes

Hesse’s science minister has said she cannot make up for a funding shortfall facing the Land’s universities, after Hesse’s government budget was affected by decreases in tax income.

Eva Kühne-Hörmann said on 28 November that a call from universities, which want €28 million from the research and education ministry to make up for cuts in their budget, would have to remain “unheard”. The universities requested the funding to cover the failure of a proposed scheme that would top up budgets in case of rising tax incomes.
