Germany’s newest research aircraft, which is about to embark on its first mission to Antarctica this week, was unveiled to scientists and the public in Bremerhaven on 28 October.
Polar 6, owned and managed by the Alfred-Wegener-Institute for Polar Research, cost just under €10 million to construct and equip. It was financed by the German ministry for education and research as part of the country’s Antarctic research programme.
