Scientists are crucial part of politics, says Merkel

Politicians need science more than ever to tackle global, long-term problems such as climate change and economics, according to Angela Merkel, the German chancellor.

Speaking at the annual conference of the Alexander-von-Humboldt Foundation, which funds international scientists coming to Germany, Merkel said scientists played a crucial role in political advice and strategic planning.
