Research and education take 10 per cent budget share

Germany’s 2012 government budget proposal includes €12.8 billion for research and education—around 10 per cent of total projected government spending.

The proposal, passed by parliament on 6 July, foresees €1.1bn for more study places at universities, €300 million for the excellence initiative to honour outstanding academic research and €175m for projects to improve teaching quality.
