Baden-Württemberg is biggest spender

Baden-Württemberg remains Germany’s most research-intensive Land, with an annual expenditure on research and innovation amounting to 4.8 per cent of GDP, the Land government announced on 28 July.

Theresia Bauer, the Land’s research minister, said she was particularly proud of the rise in higher education spending from €1.5 billion in 2007 to €1.8bn in 2008.
