Research ship reaches North Pole

The Polarstern, Germany’s flagship polar research ship, has reached the North Pole in its latest expedition to study climate change in the Arctic.

The ship changed its planned route to incorporate the Pole after research found the ice there was thinner than usual. The ship will cross the pole, and continue into Canadian waters to study ice composition and measure sunlight influence.
