Germany and France have teamed up to lobby the European Union to strengthen regional higher education.
Margret Wintermantel, the head of the German Rectors’ Conference, and her French counterpart, Louis Vogel, met Máire Geoghegan-Quinn, the European research commissioner, in Brussels on 20 September. They asked the commissioner for more support for national and regional excellence initiatives, which fund the best local universities.
