Baden-Württemberg has launched a collaboration system which awards universities €1 million over five years if they collaborate with industry to create a so-called Industry on Campus project.
The projects are aimed at improving public-private collaboration, in particular in energy research. The universities are supposed to provide expertise and lab space for small businesses with research ideas. The businesses will match government funding for the projects, and include students in their research.
