Law gives university greater say on funding

The German parliament has passed a law that will give more budget decision-making powers to research institutes, as part of the country’s science autonomy strategy.

The law, approved on 18 October, will permit non-academic research institutes to make their own decisions about financing and staffing, as well as about construction of additional or new facilities.
