Bavaria pushes for more direct funding to institutions

Bavaria is mulling changes to its higher education financing law, which could see central government funding being made available for grants going directly to Länder institutions.

Wolfgang Heubisch, the Bavarian science minister, announced on 10 February that he had received “widespread support” for a plan to improve institution funding. At present, higher education institutions can receive money from the German government only for individual projects. All other funding comes from the Bavarian state.
