The Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft has selected 11 research institutions that will receive €450,000 to improve facilities under its first-ever funding round for equipment.
The organisation’s Core Facilities fund was started in March 2011 to finance the establishment and development of facility centres and infrastructure. Its first funding round received 57 applications, the DFG, Germany’s largest public research funder, said on 16 February.
The DFG said the funds are intended to support universities and research centres in sharing resources and expanding equipment and facilities.
An important criterion for selecting projects was a plan for a long-term improvement of facilities at the applicant institution, the DFG said.
