A Mannheim-based university clinic needs urgent restructuring, the Baden-Württemberg research ministry says, after a series of reforms failed to plug a large funding hole in the institution.
A ministry statement on 2 August said that the Medical Faculty Heidelberg in Mannheim, shared by two universities, suffered because of a misallocation of construction funds and over-spending on rented buildings. The faculty also overpaid about €4.8 million per year to Mannheim’s main university clinic, the ministry said.
