Germany and China get cracking on joint projects

Germany and China are going to increase research collaboration, in particular in the fields of LED technology and polar research, according to the German government.

Annette Schavan, the German research minister, was in Beijing on 30 August to discuss collaboration with her Chinese counterpart Wan Gang. The two countries agreed to step up joint research on the biological and health effects of LED lighting, a field in which both partners say they possess expertise. The goal of the collaboration is to develop cheaper and more effective LED technology, and improve the recycling of LED components.
