Two of Germany's government ministries have teamed up to spend €50 million on innovation in photovoltaics, as the country strives to strengthen its position in the international solar-panel market.
The money will go towards improving solar-panel manufacturing and energy distribution systems. It is provided jointly by the German ministries for research and the environment.
In a statement released on 20 April, the two ministries said that the quality of German-made solar panels needs to be maintained to keep the country’s market lead in the field. Germany is embroiled in a trade war with China, which was accused of price dumping by chancellor Angela Merkel after Chinese manufacturers flooded the EU solar-panel market with cheap products.
