Germany's Volkswagen Foundation has teamed up with Sweden's Riksbankens Jubileumsfond and the UK's Wellcome Trust to fund research into how Europe can cope with global challenges.
The partners aim to fund between six and eight projects with up to €800,000 each, it was announced on 10 November. The goal of the partnership is to find out how Europe can deal with global challenges such as climate change, economic instability and migration.
The Wellcome Trust is the largest research foundation in Europe, and Riksbankens Jubileumsfond and the Volkswagen Foundation are among the largest philanthropic funders in their home countries. “Together we can do our best to help tackle the large global challenges,” said Wilhelm Krull, the president of the Volkswagen Foundation.
