The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) has launched information centres in Tel Aviv and Kazan to step up collaboration with Israel and Russia.
The Tel Aviv centre opened its doors on 18 March, and will help students and scientists from Israel to access German universities and set up research projects. Ten per cent of Israelis studying abroad choose Germany, according to the DAAD, and the close ties created by this should be further exploited.
The DAAD has two other centres in Israel: in Haifa and Jerusalem. The centres are preparing a special information campaign in 2015, the 50th anniversary of German-Israeli diplomatic relations, the DAAD said.
