An archive for German folk music is to be integrated into the University of Freiburg as a centre for interdisciplinary research and documentation.
The transition will be funded by Baden-Württemberg’s government. It will allow researchers, in particular from the social sciences and humanities, to access the archived material without affecting ongoing archive work, the state’s research ministry said in a statement.
“We want to improve the archive’s abilities and its competitiveness as a leading national and international research centre for popular culture and music,” said Theresia Bauer, Baden-Württemberg’s research minister.
