Germany steps up Africa collaboration

Germany's government has celebrated the 30th anniversary of official collaboration on research and science with Africa.

A set of Africa days are intended to draw attention to cooperation opportunities in a continent that is often overlooked, the government said in a statement. At a conference held in Berlin on 18 March, about 700 researchers and politicians from Africa and Europe came together to develop a set of recommendations.

“We want to build on successful cooperation and create an Africa strategy for education and research,” said Johanna Wanka, Germany’s research minister. “It is our goal to develop research questions together and support the sustainable development of innovation in African countries.”
