Bumper year for German education

Germany’s public funding for education totalled €123.7 billion in 2015, a €2.9bn increase on the previous year.

A report published on 17 December by Destatis, Germany’s federal statistics office, said that in 2015 the education budget increased at all three levels of public funding: federal, state and municipality.

The federal budget for education grew to €9.1bn, after stagnating at €8.1bn in 2012 and 2013 and €8.2bn in 2014. The figure has more than doubled in the past 10 years, from €4.3bn in 2005.
