Private R&D workforce categorised as male and German

A total of 81 per cent of all scientific employees in German companies are men and 95 per cent are German nationals, finds a report by Stifterverband, an association of German research funders.

Stifterverband said in a press release on 3 December that the scientific workforce was more homogeneous than previously thought.

In addition to the gender and nationality imbalance, the report finds that older researchers are underrepresented and researchers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) make up 82 per cent of the workforce.
