Record number of American students visit Germany

Germany hosted 10,377 students from the United States on temporary visits in 2014, a record high, but the number of students going in the opposite direction is falling.

The total number of Americans temporarily visiting Germany to study in 2014 increased by 9 per cent compared with 2013. They included students who were in Germany for a semester abroad, an internship, a summer school or a language course, according to a statement from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) released on 10 December.

The number of US students aiming to complete a degree in Germany also rose to a record high of 2,516 in 2013-14. This was a 6 per cent increase on the previous year. The most popular study destinations for these students are Berlin and Baden-Württemberg.
