State commits €3bn to university modernisation

North Rhine-Westphalia’s research ministry has said that the state will spend €3 billion by 2020 on university construction and renovation.

The ministry, together with universities and the BLB, a state-wide property company, chose 25 projects in 16 locations for modernisation. These include libraries, laboratories, lecture halls, gymnasiums, and dormitories.

“At a time when student numbers are at a historically high level, good infrastructure is particularly important,” said Svenja Schulze, the state’s research minister.
