German-Turkish science year draws to a close

More than 100 cooperation projects were launched during the German-Turkish Year of Science 2014, which ended this month.

The initiative, launched in January last year, aimed to create more awareness among German and Turkish people about science in their respective countries. The programme was jointly funded by the German and Turkish science ministries, and focused on challenges faced by both countries, such as rare diseases, climate change and demographic change.

According to the German science ministry, just over 100 cooperation projects were created as part of the initiative. “Through this joint science year we have built bridges that will connect Germany and Turkey far beyond this initiative,” said Johanna Wanka, the German research minister.
