Heritage strategy built on science

Bavaria is to introduce a requirement for scientific evidence to be considered in applications to develop heritage sites.

The state is to adapt its heritage laws as part of its heritage and conservation strategy 2020, which was launched on 27 February. It will become a legal requirement to gather and consider scientific evidence before making any changes to heritage sites in the state.

Scientific evidence and knowledge are crucial to the preservation of such sites, the strategy says, as they provide the information necessary to ensure that core areas are protected and that the best available skills are used to renovate cultural treasures.
