The research ministry of Baden-Württemberg has launched a state-wide initiative to support small and obscure research disciplines.
The initiative will provide €1 million a year for the next three years to draw attention to the needs and contributions of research in obscure disciplines. Scientists will be funded to publish their work, travel to conferences and increase their competitiveness, the research ministry said in a statement on 26 March.
“These small subjects are of incredible value for basic research and the diversity of thinking in our society,” said Theresia Bauer, Baden-Württemberg’s research minister. “We need their competencies, points of view and methods. This initiative will ensure their efficacy.”
