Rectors back call for Bologna push

Germany’s rectors have responded to the conclusions of a meeting of European education ministers in Yerevan, Armenia, welcoming the call for more effort to be put into creating a European higher education area.

At the conference, held on 13 and 14 May, the ministers concluded that universities and businesses must work more closely together, and that the move towards a common European higher education area—known as the Bologna process—must be given greater emphasis.

In a statement issued on 15 May, the HRK said that the ministers were right to praise the collective efforts so far of the European Commission, national governments, universities and students, but it also welcomed the bluntness of the ministers’ message that some countries are failing to implement reforms, and that greater effort is needed in these areas.
