Germany’s third nanotechnology action plan prioritises better risk management and greater nanomaterial use by small businesses.
The Aktionsplan Nanotechnologie 2020 is part of the government’s wider hi-tech plan. It provides an outline strategy for the safe and environmentally friendly use of nanomaterials to strengthen the competitiveness of German research and production.
The strategy aims to support research, marketing and networking activities at small businesses that are active in nanotechnology, and also aims to boost the education and training of qualified professionals in the field. Of the 2,200 institutions active in nanotechnology in Germany, about half come from industry, 75 per cent of which are small and medium-sized businesses.
