Germany’s Excellence Initiative has had a very positive effect on the country’s universities, a commission has said.
An international commission charged with evaluating the success of the initiative and suggesting its next steps released its findings on 29 January. The commission was chaired by Dieter Imboden, a physicist at ETH Zurich in Switzerland.
The commission’s report says that while the initiative hasn’t yet achieved all of its aims, which include boosting some institutions to the top of the world rankings, it has set the system in the right direction.
