German-Russian research groups funded

The Helmholtz Association of German research centres and the Russian Science Foundation have chosen the first six groups to be funded under their Joint Research Groups programme.

The groups, which were chosen in the first of three planned calls for proposals, focus on the fields of biomedicine and information and data science. Each will receive €260,000 a year for three years, with Helmholtz and the RSF each providing half of the funding.

Topics covered by the six groups include X-ray microscopy of biological specimens, childhood cancer categorisation and high-energy cosmic rays. Each group is a collaboration between a Helmholtz centre and a Russian partner. A primary goal of the programme is the advancement of young scientists in both countries.
