President calls on scientists to join political debates

Steinmeier encourages discussions and openness in bid to raise science’s public profile

Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Germany’s president, has asked researchers to become more active in contributing their findings to democratic arguments.

Steinmeier, whose presidential role is representative, spoke at the closing ceremony of the Freedom Is Our System campaign run by the Alliance of Science Organisations, a grouping of Germany’s biggest science players.
