DFG puts blocks on scientists over misconduct allegations

Germany’s largest public research funder bars two scientists from submitting proposals

The DFG, Germany’s largest public research funder, has barred two scientists from submitting proposals and participating in peer review activities over alleged scientific misconduct.

Niels Birbaumer, a professor at the University of Tübingen, has lost his eligibility to apply for funding or review proposals at the DFG for five years over a controversial study of people with brain damage. His co-author Ujwal Chaudhary, also based at Tübingen, will be excluded from DFG funding and peer-review activities for three years.
