States secure more than 500 tenure track positions

The GWK, a committee of Germany’s federal education ministry and state representatives, has chosen to fund an extra 532 tenure track professorships at 57 universities.

The GWK, which deals with joint research policy between the government and the 16 states, picked the positions as part of its Programme for the Promotion of Young Scientists. In the programme’s first round in 2017, 468 tenure track positions were awarded.

The latest selection brings the total number of tenure track positions funded directly by the federal government to 1,000, and the number of participating institutions to 75.
