All servers taken offline and passwords reset after ransomware attack in December

The Justus Liebig University in Giessen has become the target of an apparent hacking attack in December, leaving the institution struggling to restore its digital infrastructure.

After the cyberattack, the university’s entire data network was taken offline, including e-mail services and servers holding research data, the JLU said in a statement. The move was triggered by the detection of harmful software on the university’s serves.
