Culture of ‘secrecy’ could put German R&D at a disadvantage, High-Tech Forum says

The High-Tech Forum, a German government advisory body, has published a discussion paper that calls for more government support to open up science and innovation.

“Secrecy has long been a virtue, whether in companies or in research,” said forum spokesman Andreas Barner, who presides over the Stifterverband, an association of German research funders. “Only now are we learning what there is to gain by openness. We are still at the very beginning when it comes to developing a culture of openness.”
