Education researchers track ups and downs of postgrads

German PhD candidates happy but concerns over prospects for international students

A survey by the German Centre for Higher Education and Science Research (DZHW) has found high levels of satisfaction among Germany’s PhD students with their career so far. 

The researchers questioned 20,000 doctoral students and found that most chose further study out of enthusiasm for their subject and a love of research. For more than 70 per cent of those surveyed, this enthusiasm continued well into their doctorate careers.
