Battery clusters jump-started with €100m

German government injects funding to ensure leadership in growing field of science

The German research ministry has made €100 million available to finance four so-called competence centres in battery research, saying the technology is “of manifold importance” to the country’s economy.

The four centres will build on collaborations formalised under the Battery Research Factory, a push to support science locations working in the field throughout Germany. The centres will work closely together with industry partners, who will take on the mass production of any innovations derived from their work, the government said.
