German researchers protest ‘disappointing’ EU budget

Leading organisations slam Council proposal that reduces funds for science and exchange

German science organisations have voiced their opposition to the planned EU budget for 2021-27, calling for a stronger focus on research and education.

These two areas are “the foundations for innovation and successful crisis management”, according to a joint statement by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG), Germany’s largest public funder, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the German Rectors’ Conference (HRK).
