American authorities ask international students taking online courses to return home
German students in the United States have asked the German government for support against a threat of expulsion from the country, following a switch to online teaching to maintain social distancing.
The US immigration authorities announced last week that international students at American universities offering online teaching only this winter semester would have to leave the country or switch to universities that teach in person. The pressure to move teaching online has grown in response to the coronavirus pandemic, which is sweeping the United States and has killed nearly 140,000 people in the country.
